Information for Paper Preparation and Paper Proposal Form


 

Paper Requirements:

1. Two (2) copies of proposal form (typed) brought to section meeting on due date. (Cut and paste the below text into your wordprocessing file and print a copy.)
2. Clearly written argumentative essay including full bibliographic citations (APA Style or similar) for document(s) and secondary sources emailed as an attachment in .doc format to section instructor on or before the due date.
Undergraduates: 6 (1500 words) to 8 (2000 words) pages
Graduate students: 20 (5000 words) to 35 pages (8750 words) pages.
3. Paper emailed to section instructor in .rtf, .doc., or .pdf format on or before the deadline.
4. If the student turns in a digitally recorded version of their primary document that she or he has recorded live her or himself, she or he will receive a 2.5% extra credit bonus. The digital file must be in .mp3 or .wav format and may be sent as an email attachment (if it is small enough) or put on a CD and given to instructor. Digital recorders are available for checkout in the Hamel Digital Media Lap on the Third Floor of Vilas.
 

Grading and Evaluative Criteria for Paper

1. Clarity of argument including the use of (a) document and (b) secondary material including at least one analytic tool from the course.
a. Quality not quantity
b. Significance of research question
c. Appropriateness of chosen methods
d. Significance of analysis
e. Is it persuasive?
d. Is there a critical claim?
e. Professionalism of style and presentation of the paper

Please use formal citations, professional language including formal spellings and mechanics, and avoid any language that could be deemed obscene, hostile, or injurious to a general audience unless that language is quoted from an outside source and used as evidence for the claims made in the paper.

Paper Proposal Form


Grading and Evaluative Criteria for Paper Proposal
Late or missing proposals and/or papers can result in a failure of the course.

This proposal will be graded based on the following criteria:
1. the instructions correctly followed including pasting and bringing the completed form to the section meeting on the correct date

2. the correct formation of a thesis in question 2 based both on the form and the criteria for document selection


A. the document shall be a documented communication that deploys one or more religious symbols (religious topics or symbols do not need to be its primary feature)
B. the document shall not be a translation of a non-English communication unless it has been previously approved by the instructor
C. the document shall not be too long to be fully addressed in the space of the paper


3. the professionalism of writing style including word use, phrasing, spelling, grammar, and the other mechanical features of the writing

4. the feasibility of proposed paper including its persuasive potential

 

Graduate Students

Please do not use the form below.

Instead, write a 250 - 500 abstract of your proposed paper as you envision it now. Include some bibliographic sources in a Works Cited section as necessary in addition to the 500 word maximum. Please email the prospectus to me either as an attachment in MS Word, Word Perfect, .rtf, or .pdf format or in the body of the emailed message.

Please list at least 10 book sections and/or articles that you have not yet read and are not in the course readings that will function as your preliminary research into the topic of your project over the coming weeks.
